„Whiskey in the Jar“ is one of the most widely performed Irish traditional songs. It dates back to the 17th century.
The song was part of my live soundtrack for the theatre production of
„KEAN ou Désordre et Genie“ or simply „Kean“, which was a successful theatre production about the celebrated British stage actor Edmund Kean (4 November 1787 – 15 May 1833),
directed by Frank Castorf; starring Alexander Scheer, Georg Friedrich, Axel Wandtke, Mex Schlüpfer, Jeanette Spassova, Silvia Rieger and many others.
It was performed at the Volksbühne Berlin, Germany.
„Whiskey in the Jar“ is a single release from my official soundtrack album „KEAN ou Désordre et Genie“.
lyrics
WHISKEY IN THE JAR
When I was going over the Cork and Kerry mountains
I saw captain Farrell and his money he was counting
I first produced my pistol and then I produced my rapier
I said stand o'er - deliver or the devil he may take you
Mush a ring dum a do dum a da
Whack for the daddy-o'er
There's whiskey in the jar-o
I took all of his money and it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she'd love me, never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman - oh you know she's never easy
Mush a ring dum a do dum a da
Whack for the daddy-o'er
There's whiskey in the jar-o
Bein' drunk and weary I went to Molly's chamber
Takin' my Molly with me and I never knew the danger
For about six or maybe seven in walked captain Farrell
I jumped up and fired off my pistols and I shot him with both barrels
Mush a ring dum a do dum a da
Whack for the daddy-o'er
There's whiskey in the jar-o
Now, some men like the fishing, some men like the fowling
And some men like to hear the cannon ball a'roaring
Me, I like sleepin' specially in my Molly's chamber
But here I am in prison, here I am with a ball and chain, yeah
Mush a ring dum a do dum a da
Whack for the daddy-o'er
There's whiskey in the jar-o
Mush a ring dum a do dum a da
Whack for the daddy-o'er
There's whiskey in the jar-o
Mush a ring dum a do dum a daan
